Video: Man defends a young black kid being scolded by an elderly white woman for hawking candy outside a store

A

video showing the altercation between an elderly woman, a black girl

selling candy and a man who intervened outside a Rowland Heights Target

Store has gone viral with millions of views. According to the Lady who

shared it, she witnessed the white old lady harassing the teenager for

selling candy outside the retail store.
“She comes up to

the little kid and is like, ‘Where is your license? Have you asked

permission to be here?’ And then the kid is like, ‘No, I’m just selling

candy. I’m trying to make some money. The Old Lady continued to yell and

scream at her, telling her if she didn’t have a permit, she was going

to go to jail and the police were on their way.”
A man,

later identified as Jay Lopez, walked up to defend the girl who was

already in tears. He faced the old lady and told her she should be

ashamed of herself for criticizing such a young child (trying to make

money through appropriate means). She refused to back down, saying 'they

(black kids) do it all over the country' and he should see how they

live. Determined to shut her up and end the back-and-forth, he offered

to buy the entire lot of candy worth $80. He went to withdraw money,

purchased it all and handed them out to fellow shoppers passing by.

The

Lady who shared the video that went viral has been contacted by the

woman’s daughter, asking her to take the video down, but she has decided

not to until she hears from the teenager. Watch the video after the

cut.
